Starfield Blasts Off In September

Starfield, Bethesda's mammoth-sized space RPG, is launching on September 6, the publisher announced in a video today. Additionally, a presentation showcasing more of the game called Starfield Direct will air on June 11.  In a new video hosted by game director Todd Howard, he states the Direct in June – which happens to be the weekend before E3 starts – will provide a "deep dive" into the game. He reiterates that Starfield is a unique experience that also has many of the hallmarks fans expect from a Bethesda title. We last saw Starfield during the Xbox Game Showcase last summer, where Bethesda revealed its extensive scope, including thousands of planets, spaceship construction, environmental scanning, and other features.  Starfield was originally slated to launch on November 11, 2022, before getting delayed. It was later reconfirmed to launch within the first half of 2023, and though September sits on the second...

The studio cites unfavorable "economic context" as the reason it's shutting down after nine years of development, primarily creating 2016's Aragami, its Nightfall DLC, and 2021's Aragami 2.  Here's the studio's statement on its closing, in full:  We have some important news to share with you. Former Riot Executives Form New Studio To Create ‘Next-Generation Open-World Game’

Two former Riot Games executives have teamed up to form a new studio that aims to make a "next-generation open-world game."  This new studio is called The Believer Company, and it was founded by former Riot vice president Michael Chow, who will serve as the studio's CEO, and founding Riot member and League of Legends executive producer, Steven Snow, who is now The Believer Company's chief product officer. The Believer Company has already secured "$55 million in Series A financing," too.  A press release states that this funding is led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, and will "initially be put to work building a world-class team to deliver a next-generation open-world game, anchored by an original IP, stories where player choices matter, and gameplay systems that bring players together rather than pushing them apart." The $55 million round was funded "with the...
